unless he's owned a dog. He can show you more honest affection with the flick of his tail than a man can gather through a lifetime of handshakes." -- Gene Hill, The Dog Man |

Beacher is about 2 years old and weighs about 35 pounds. A lady found him during a bitterly cold period with bloody paws and in desperate need of care. Several weeks later, he is healthy and fattened up. He is a very sweet and cuddly beagle who loves to be picked up and loved on.
Beacher is gentle and good with kids, as well as with other dogs. He is free to roam in the house while his foster mom is at work, and is housetrained and not destructive. Some type of fenced yard is preferred because he doesn't like to do his "business" while on a leash! Beacher is not a big barker and is one cuddly beagle. Perhaps he is the perfect family pet you have been looking for?

Lily is a friendly young girl who is about 1 1/2 years old and weighs about 8 pounds. She is very active and curious girl who loves to explore and play with other dogs. She also likes to be petted and will cuddle up with you at night.
Lily gets along well with other dogs and children, and loves to meet new people. Life with Lily is never boring.

Opal is a sweet smart terrier-shepherd mix who weighs about 55 pounds. We are guessing she was an only dog in a houseful of cats, because she is very good with them but unsure of how to interact with other dogs in her foster home.
Opal is a smart dog who knows lots of commands. She is quiet, listens to you, and is crate trained. Once she gets a trim, you will be able to see how beautiful her eyes are - one is amber and one is blue. Opal really is a gentle sweet girl. Could she be the one for your family?

We are now accepting applications for the three Chihuahua puppies who are ready to go to their forever home. The mother, a 9 lb. Chihuahua called Teddy Bea, came to us pregnant. We believe the father to be another black and white Chihuahua who came from the same household. As they are very young, they are not yet housebroken. Due to their small size, a home without small children is preferred.
Rudy weighs approximately 2 lbs. He is the wild child of the litter. He is full of energy and loves to play and run. He does not think he is small, and is fearless. He plays with all the other dogs in his foster home, big and small. Mitch weighs approximately 2 lbs. Although he likes to play, he is shy and timid in new surroundings. Like his momma, he loves to be with you all the time and cuddle on your lap. He gets along well with other small dogs, but is intimidated by bigger dogs in the house.
Patch (aka Pudge) is the largest of the litter, weighing approximately 3 lbs, which is how he got the nickname Pudge! He loves to explore and investigate everything. However, he is a smart little puppy and will usually return to you if you call for him. After he has finished his exploring he will look for you so that he can take a nap on your lap.
If you are interested in any of these puppies pleas fill out an application or contact Jen at fermiller50@hotmail.com or Karin at kstraley.ac@gmail.com | |

Lucille is a 5-6 year old Rottweiler rescued last June from a known dumping ground for dogs. When she was rescued, she was very thin (60 lbs.), scabbed and missing most of her fur, and bloated with worms. After a couple of months of care and several antibiotic baths, she was returned to health and quickly put on weight. She is now about 95 lbs.
Lucille from the start and despite it all showed just how sweet and adoring a personality she is. She is truly a lover and just cannot get enough of her people, my young son included, whenever they care to show her affection. Her whole body wags with the promise of attention. Though protective of the house, she is not aggressive toward visitors, and with an introduction, she's as loving as ever. Nothing would make her happier than--between meals, of course--being loved and petted on all day, preferably from her blanket, where she usually sleeps. That said, she can remain in the house alone for long periods of the day without causing any disturbances. At the vet, she is an angel, lying down on the floor for all of her needs and even nail clippings. Her shots are up to date, she was spayed young and she is now in excellent health, though she could probably get out and run more.
Lucille gets along well with submissive dogs and doesn't mind cats, but she does have an issue with excitement. She does need a strong, consistent leader in her people and responds exceedingly well to them when they earn her respect. She comes on command, sits and waits with focus for her food, and cuddles whenever you simply lie down and pat the floor. She really is a fantastic love of a dog! Lucille is available through the Almost Home Pet Adoption Center of the Nelson County (Virginia) Humane Society. Please contact marti@xceltech.net with any questions.

Diesel is a young male boxer, about 1-2 years old, approximately 50 pounds. He's very friendly and seems to be comfortable indoors, but you should assume the responsibility for house training. He is not accustomed to a crate but is ok with it and is getting used to it in his foster home without any problems.
You can contact Diesel's foster home (near Charlottesville) at vadogrescue@aol.com.

Jack is a 7 year old, 85 pound, neutered male Newfoundland mix. We are having to find Jack a new home because he has anxiety issues around small children and some other animals. He is a very loving and kind dog but needs the right person to bond with who can give him lots of TLC. Jack loves to be outside and would make a wonderful companion in a home with no small children or other animals. If interested in adopting Jack, please contact us at lmangiaracina@k12albemarle.org or mullinex@k12albemarle.org This dog is not part of Animal Connections and is not being adopted through Animal Connections. The contact listed is for the owners and there is no relationship with or connection to Animal Connections, Inc. All of our pets are fostered in homes in and around the Charlottesville, Va area. Adoption fee is $175 which includes all vaccines, heartworm test and spay/neuter.

| Miss Bea is a spunky little black and tan dachshund mix with brown brindle highlights. Like most doxies, she loves to cuddle and be petted.
Bea is eager to please her family and loves playing with the children in her foster home. She does not mind the other small breed dogs but is intimated by the rotti/doberman who wants to play. She has made herself at home on the back of the sofa in her foster home but is eager to find a family of her own. Miss Bea acts like a typical dachshund so it may be helpful if her adoptive family is familiar with the breed. She needs to go to a home with another dog for company, and a fenced yard would be preferable so she can zoom around with her dog sibling(s).

| Teddy Bee is a 4 year old black and white Chihuahua who is an absolute doll. Shortly after being rescued she gave birth to 3 cute little puppies on Nov 30. The father was likely another small Chihuahua that was turned into the shelter with her (already adopted).
Teddy Bee is a smart dog, is housetrained, and very polite inside. She learned what "go to your bed" meant after only a few days in her foster home. She walks like a pro on the leash and even follows her foster mom off-leash. Small children scare little Teddy Bee, so she will do better in a home of adults or teen children only If you are interested in adopting Teddy Bee, a visit can be arranged now, although you would have to wait until the puppies are weaned before taking her home. All of our pets are fostered in homes in and around the Charlottesville, Va area. Adoption fee is $175 which includes all vaccines, heartworm test and spay/neuter.

| Teddy Pup Pup is a beagle mix of some sort, who is probably about a year old. He is a little shy but is a scrappy fellow who can hold his own with the big dogs in his foster home.
Adoption fee is $175 which includes all vaccines, heartworm test and spay/neuter.

| Brady is a 5 month old Rottweiler mix. He's a typical rottie pup, very outgoing and friendly, very playful. Brady can be protective of his food, but he eats with other dogs without difficulty. Fenced yard required. Brady will use a crate, but at this age I can't say that he's housetrained. He loves playing with other dogs. You can contact Brady's foster home at vadogrescue@aol.com
Adoption fee is $175 which includes all vaccines, heartworm test and spay/neuter.

Spice is a sweet 2 year old red purebred miniature poodle who weighs 12-13 pounds. She was used as a backyard breeder until her owner got ill and turned her in to the shelter. She is very shy and not used to being indoors or around people.
Her foster mom says Spice is a very easy dog to take care of. Spice would love to stay on her bed all day long because that is where she feels safe. She will wag her tail on occasion, and gets along with other dogs, although she doesn't play with them. Her adopter should be experienced in working with shy dogs and help Spice become used to the life of an indoor pet rather than caged breeder.
